What is Breast Aesthetics?

Breast aesthetics is a surgical procedure performed to improve the appearance of the breast area, to add volume, shape or reduce it. It is the branch preferred by women to increase their self-confidence and to achieve an appearance that is compatible with their body lines. Breast aesthetics can be performed using various techniques and procedures.

Stages of Breast Aesthetics

  • The preoperative process begins with the patient's initial consultation with the surgeon. At this stage, the surgeon examines the patient's medical history, listens to their expectations and aesthetic goals. The patient's breast structure, skin elasticity and general health status are evaluated.
  • After the consultation, the surgeon plans the details of the surgery. This planning includes the type of implant to be used, its size, the location of the incisions, and the overall strategy for the surgery. The day of surgery and preparations are decided.
  • Before surgery, the patient may need to undergo certain tests. These tests may include blood tests, mammograms, or EKGs. The patient must follow the surgeon's instructions before surgery, quit smoking, and avoid certain medications.
  • On the day of the surgery, the patient is given general anesthesia and incisions are made as determined by the surgeon. The location and shape of the incisions vary depending on the type of procedure to be performed.
  • Breast Augmentation: Implants are placed under the breast tissue or under the chest muscle.
  • Breast Reduction: Excess breast tissue, fat and skin are removed, and a new shape of the breast is created.
  • Breast Lift: The breast tissue is reshaped and excess skin is removed. The surgery usually takes 1-3 hours.
  • After the surgery, the patient's condition is monitored and the initial recovery process begins. The patient can usually stay in the hospital the same day or overnight. Things to consider after the surgery:
  • The first few days are rest and use of painkillers recommended by the doctor.
  • Use of a supportive bra or corset.
  • Avoiding strenuous physical activities and arm strain.
  • Keeping incisions clean and dry.
  • A visit to the doctor is required 1 week after surgery to have the stitches removed and to have a check-up. The surgeon will monitor the healing process and give you instructions on any necessary care.
  • The full recovery process usually takes a few weeks to a few months. The swelling subsides, the breast tissue takes on its new shape, and the results become apparent.

How Long Does Breast Aesthetics Take?

The duration of breast aesthetic surgery varies depending on the type and extent of the procedure. Breast augmentation, reduction or lift surgeries usually take between 1 and 3 hours. This includes preoperative preparation and anesthesia. The postoperative recovery period can range from a few weeks to a few months. It usually takes 3 to 6 months for the full results to appear and for the swelling to completely subside.

The Recovery Process After Breast Aesthetics

The first few days after surgery are critical in terms of rest and care. Swelling, bruising and mild pain are normal during this period. Painkillers recommended by the doctor will help reduce discomfort during this period.

During the first week, the patient can return to light daily activities, but should avoid heavy lifting and intense physical activity. The surgeon may recommend that you wear a supportive bra or corset.

From the second week onwards, the patient begins to move more freely. He/she feels more comfortable returning to work or continuing with his/her daily routine. However, heavy exercises and activities that strain the arms should still be avoided.

One month after the surgery, the swelling has greatly decreased and the results of the surgery are more noticeable. The patient can return to normal physical activities during this period. However, it is still beneficial to avoid heavy and intense exercises.

The full recovery process is usually completed within 3 to 6 months. During this process, the breast tissue heals completely, the swelling completely subsides and the final results become apparent. The patient's healthy diet, drinking plenty of water and protection from the sun can speed up the recovery process.
